Traineeships are an educational training programme for young people aged 16-24 years old. The aim of a traineeship is to prepare you for employment so you are able to progress successfully to apprenticeships and other sustainable jobs.
Units include:
- communication skills in preparing for work
- applying for jobs and courses
- researching employment opportunities
- oral presentation skills
- maths and English.
You will develop skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress into positive destinations. You will also develop the skills and knowledge that will help you to identify suitable work opportunities for the future, including timekeeping, following instructions, working independently, teamwork, problem solving and taking part in a work placement.
Although there are no formal entry requirements, you must be aged 16-25, not currently employed or in an apprenticeship and not have a Level 3 qualification. We would also expect that you would have little previous work experience and you are motivated to enter an apprenticeship or employment.
Once you have found a successful work placement you will be required to attend College for one day a week for Functional Skills in maths and English, progress reviews and employability sessions. During your work placement a member of staff will be supporting you closely and will make regular visits to your work placement to monitor your progress.
While on the programme you will develop skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress into positive destinations. You will also develop the skills and knowledge that will help you to identify suitable work opportunities for the future, including timekeeping, following instructions, working independently, teamwork, problem solving and taking part in a work placement.
Our Traineeships normally last for 16 weeks. However, if we feel you are ready to progress before the end of the course, we will support you with this. For the first four weeks of your programme you will attend College for three days a week. During this time staff will work very closely with you to help you find a suitable work placement that will help you progress into employment or an apprenticeship. You will then start your work placement for at least two days a week and attend College for one day per week until the end of your Traineeship.
You will be expected to attend every session, including English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions. Non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved, and continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.
This course is the perfect stepping stone to further education that enables progression to further vocational courses, apprenticeships or employment.
