Designed for those wanting to learn the basic skills and knowledge involved in electrical installation, this level is ideal for those who are starting out and want a basic understanding of the electrical industry.
Units include:
- structure of the construction industry
- fundamental safe working practices
- environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings
- site preparation for working in the construction industry
- electrical installation wiring and terminations
- fabrication techniques for electrical installation
- electrical science and technology.
You will complete 30 hours of work experience within the industry. You will have the opportunity to take part in college-based projects and will be encouraged and supported to take part in both local and national competitions. Trips to trade shows, manufacturers and visits from industry specialists are also included in the course.
You will need four GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent in maths, English and preferably science.
You will learn in our well-equipped workshops, backed up by classroom sessions which will help to underpin your knowledge of the subject.
This is a full-time course with workshop attendance two days a week for one year. If you require maths and English support, this will be additional classroom time.
Students can progress on to a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or into an apprenticeship.
