This course follows on from the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma and is designed to further develop students’ academic and practical skills in the travel and tourism environment.
Units include:
You will have the opportunity to gain work experience with some of the region’s leading organisations, such as the Mary Rose Museum, Village Hotel, Queens Hotel Portsmouth, Hovertravel and Portsmouth Guildhall. You will enjoy many trips during the year to top tourist attractions, as well as industry visits, talks and the opportunity to attend a three-day study break to an overseas/UK based destination.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, plus a merit or above on the National Foundation Diploma.
This National Extended Diploma is full time for one year and follows on from the Level 3 National Foundation Diploma, which also lasts for one year. This course starts in September and ends in June/July. You are expected to attend for a minimum of 16 hours per week. You must successfully complete both years to gain the Extended Diploma.
You will learn through a mixture of taught lessons, group work and practical activities and this will be applied to actual events and activities within travel and tourism. Assessment for the diploma is via coursework which may take the form of written assessments, short presentations on given topics, practical role-play or group work for each unit. You will also undertake a written exam in two units.
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
You could progress to a degree course at university or employment.
