With French as a second language, you can open up the world. Learn A Level French at City of Portsmouth College and add an invaluable string to your bow.
Did you know French and English are the only languages spoken on all five continents? So, if you'd like to work abroad or for a global organisation, being proficient is key. And importantly, as a facilitating subject, it's also highly valued by top universities.
On this course, you'll further develop your skills in spoken and written French, and study literary texts and films. You'll also learn about aspects of French society, and learn how to translate from French to English and the reverse.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a grade 6 or above in French and a grade 5 or above in English language.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4.00pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
In order to properly showcase your knowledge of the French language, you'll be assessed via 100% examination, including an oral exam.
There are a wide variety of job roles in which a language is considered useful, beneficial or essential. Examples include a broadcast journalist, customs and excise employment worker, diplomatic service officer, English as a foreign language teacher, international aid/development worker, or logistics and distribution manager.
