Tap into free Green Skills courses

Are you a plumbing or heating engineer looking to build on your sustainability skills? If so, you could be eligible for three one-day courses at City of Portsmouth College – completely free of charge! Under a UK government initiative, the college, in conjunction with Portsmouth City Council and Havant Borough Council, has been given access to Green Skills funding.

Feliz Navidad

Fancy a little festive cheer? Look no further than our Arundel Campus, where our lovely ESOL students have been busy decorating Christmas trees and taking part in a macrame workshop. “The building looks fab now,” said ESOL lecturer Gulsah Robertson. We let the photographs speak for themselves.

The universal language of the drums

More than 30 ESOL students enjoyed a free two-hour drumming session at our Arundel Campus as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. The session was led by Portsmouth-based organisation DrumNation Tribe, following a hugely successful similar event staged last year.

The charge of the 'right' brigade

A massive well done to two of our students who competed in the Cadet Military Cavalry Championships in Windsor. Corporal Elizabeth Hockley and Corporal Tilly Gauntlet both rode cavalry horses and were commended for their bravery in handling the very large and strong animals.

Airbus inspires in WiSTEM event

Six of our A Level maths, physics and engineering students visited Airbus in Hilsea for a Women in STEM event. They learned about possible careers in the space and engineering sector, discovered how satellites are designed, tested and built, and were even able to try out some of the equipment and processes for themselves.

Sew good!

Meet our lovely student Mariana, from El Salvador. She has been an ESOL student with us for two years. Mariana likes animals and is great at sewing. She even gives up some of her spare time to volunteer at the Repair Cafe in Cascades Shopping Centre.

Living la vida

A group of visual arts, media and film students are back from a fabulous four-day trip to Madrid. Their visit took in the Ikono Gallery, a tapas meal at Fatigas Del Querer, a flamenco performance, the Prado museum, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and the Museo Nacional Centro Arte Reina Sofia.

Vote for your Portsmouth hero

While America is at the polls, Portsmouth people are being asked to vote for a different, but no less coveted title - the Portsmouth Hero. We’re asking students and locals to vote for the greatest Portsmouthian of all time. We’ll be running a voting booth, complete with polling cards and ballot boxes, in Gunwharf Quays shopping centre on Thursday, 14 November. Alternatively, you can vote online here.

Ukrainian artist Keira makes her mark

If you happen to be walking past our Arundel Campus in the Commercial Road area of Portsmouth, you can’t fail to miss the stunning window art. It’s the work of Ukrainian refugee and ESOL student Keira. Keira started by painting a fabulous autumn scene. That has now been replaced by poppies to mark Armistice Day.

Our own Jo Chaffin was among 40 women in leadership who gathered at the Club House in Southsea to talk about influencing and driving impactful change in hospitality and events. The networking event was organised by Samantha McGrath from Heard About Sam Ltd in conjunction with Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan.

The sun shone for our glorious graduates

Glorious sunshine graced the stunning surroundings of Portsmouth Cathedral for our 2024 graduation ceremony. A total of 22 adult learners were there with their families and friends to mark the successful completion of their higher education courses.
