This course is for students who particularly enjoy mathematics or who are considering higher level studies in maths, physics, engineering, economics or computer science.
Units include:
- Pure Mathematics
- Discrete Mathematics
- Statistics.
Develop your skills in algebra and in applied areas of mathematics. You will discover new topics such as complex numbers, matrices and vectors, and link algebraic processes with a geometric interpretation. You will develop your knowledge of probability and statistics as well as discrete mathematics. Some of the topics you will study are hypothesis testing, algorithms and graph theory. You will also further your knowledge of integration and differentiation.
You could be invited to go to university taster days and take part in group challenges. You will also be able to take part in the Senior Maths Challenge (individual and/or team).
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and a grade 7 or above in GCSE Maths. You must also enrol on A Level Mathematics.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4pm finish.
You will take three exams at the end of the first year and four exams at the end of the second year. Calculators can be used in all exams.
Choosing further maths will give you a great advantage if you want to study mathematics or a maths-related subject at university. It supports a huge range of careers including architecture, engineering, physics, economics, computer science and data analysis.

Airbus inspires in WiSTEM event
Six of our A Level maths, physics and engineering students visited Airbus in Hilsea for a Women in STEM event. They learned about possible careers in the space and engineering sector, discovered how satellites are designed, tested and built, and were even able to try out some of the equipment and processes for themselves.
