If you're interested in painting and decorating and possibly working in domestic and commercial properties, this Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard at City of Portsmouth College is ideal.
The apprenticeship will cover the following knowldge and skills in painting and decorating, ranging from painting a wall, refurbishment of a room to new build housing and large scale commercial projects.:
- preparing decorative finishes
- health and safety
- erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
- applying paint systems by brush and roller
- applying foundation and plain papers
- producing specialist decorative finishes
- applying and creating colour.
You will be required to gather on site evidence through the duration of your apprenticeship standard, as well as attend our North Harbour Campus one day per week for your practical and theory delivery.
To be able to enter onto this apprenticeship you will need both maths and English at grade 2 or above, or Functional Skills Level 1.
You will be required to attend College at our North Harbour Campus. College attendance is one day per week.
It is a government requirement for you to spend a minimum of six hours per week of your apprenticeship working towards your off-the-job learning, which can consist of College attendance, homework/coursework, projects related to work, employer training, mentoring and coaching, plus a range of other tasks.
Throughout your apprenticeship you'll need to gather work-based evidence and submit this work onto your e-portfolio system, Onefile. Your evidence will then be assessed by your lecturer and feedback will be provided.
You'll need to take ownership of your own learning by seeking oppportunities to gain new skills on the job with your employer. Learning in College will be delivered through a mixture of practical delivery and application and theoretical knowledge which will help build your knowledge, skills and behaviours. You will also be required to complete independent study and research.
Your final grade will be determined in the endpoint assessment, by a collective performance in these three areas:
- online knowledge-based tests
- practical skills test
- professional discussion (to demonstrate that you can apply a broad range of knowledge, skills and behaviours set out in the standard).
You could progress to a higher level apprenticeship standard or progress into full-time work.
