If you're a qualified plumber who wants to become a fully qualified gas engineer, then City of Portsmouth College's Gas Managed Learning Programme is your first step.
This comprehensive course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely and competently with gas appliances and installations.
You'll cover core gas safety principles, legislation, and industry standards, alongside hands-on training in installation, servicing, and maintenance of domestic gas systems. The programme also prepares you for ACS assessments, enabling you to register with Gas Safe and start a rewarding career in the gas sector.
This course is designed for candidates who already hold a recognised qualification in the mechanical services engineering sector (e.g. plumbing):
Do you hold a recognised plumbing qualification? This programme is only suitable for individuals who already have plumbing experience and hold a recognised plumbing qualification.
Have you got access to a Gas Safe registered engineer who you can work with to complete your onsite portfolio of evidence? The on-site portfolio can only be completed under the supervision of a Gas Safe registered mentor. While the college will support you in building the portfolio, we are unable to provide a mentor, so you will need to arrange this independently – typically through employment with a relevant company.
This course covers a total of 42 days across a year – one evening per week during term time.
Assessments normally consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations.
Completing the Gas Managed Learning Programme opens the door to becoming a fully qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. After passing your ACS assessments, you can progress into specialist areas such as boiler installation and servicing, gas metering, LPG systems, and even commercial gas qualifications.
This course is the foundation for a rewarding career in the gas industry, with opportunities to work in domestic, commercial, and industrial environments or to start your own business as a certified gas engineer.
