For many travel enthusiasts, the sights and sounds of Nepal is just a dream. But for a group of our students it became a reality, as they embarked on the trip of a lifetime to this spectacular country.

The two-week trip, which comprised teaching, exploring and cultural exchange, was enjoyed by 16 students and led by Travel and Tourism Lecturer Amy Benham, along with Lecturer in Foundation Prospects Lisa Mayhead, Teacher in Music Gary Street and Curriculum Administrator Jasmine Thacker.

They were based in Lalitpur and taught 12- to 18-year-olds at a local school. The focus was on English language and literacy skills, and our students rose to the challenge with creative, engaging lessons that truly connected with their Nepali peers. Their time ended with a sports day full of fun and celebrations.

Away from teaching, the group visited the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Patan Durbar Square, explored temples and museums, and experienced local life through food, markets, and cultural activities, including a traditional Nepalese pottery workshop in Bhaktapur and a trip to the vibrant Thamel Market.

Amy said: “This was an incredible lesson in global citizenship, and it was a privilege to support our students through this experience. They learned so much about the beautiful country of Nepal and immersed themselves in the culture. Watching them teach the Nepalese students was a real highlight of the trip and seeing them form such meaningful connections with them was fantastic. This trip will stay with all of us forever.”
