With outstanding dedication not only to her Diploma studies, but to her grasp of the English language, Bahareh Malek Makan was the star of the show at our Adult Learners Awards Evening.

Bahareh, a student of the Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating, was named Student of the Year at the glittering awards ceremony. As well as making rapid progress in English, she has already completed all practical assessments and is close to finishing her theory work, all to distinction standard. Her lecturer was cited at the ceremony, saying: “I couldn’t be more proud of her, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of her story and journey.”

A total of 14 prizes were presented on the night by Principal & CEO, Katy Quinn.

“We want all our adult learners from across the community to develop their dreams and aspirations, building hope and realising ambitions,” she said. “We’re incredibly proud of how much you have all achieved and very happy to be joined by so many guests to share in your success.”

Other winners included English Hero Liza Akter who, along with studying ESOL also completed a Level 2 Food Safety course to help her on her way to a job in catering, and Outstanding Achievement winner Shaun Black (Level 2 Railway Engineering), who passed both NVQ Certificate and Diploma and SCT courses with flying colours, before securing jobs with two companies!

Overall, it was a fantastic year for adult learners, with a record number of nominations – a testament to the outstanding talent and commitment across the College.
