There were joyful scenes at City of Portsmouth College as jubilant students celebrated an overall pass rate of 96 per cent across all campuses – another exceptional achievement.
Their success marked a fourth record year for the college, with more than 1,000 students achieving success in a total of 1,633 academic, technical and vocational qualifications.
A total of 50 academic and vocational courses across the college saw 100 per cent pass rates – 33 of those were at their Sixth Form Campus, where 15 per cent of students got straight A-A*s.
So far, 334 students have been accepted into their first-choice universities, including 41 Russell Group places. Others have already secured prestigious apprenticeships with FTSE 100 companies across the UK.
More than half got A*-B grades in English language & literature, film studies, sociology, business and politics.
At Highbury and North Harbour Campuses, there was a 100 per cent pass rate in both the Early Years and Health T Levels.
Similar 100 per cent pass rates were also seen in 17 out of 26 vocational courses, including health and social care, esports, engineering, business and plumbing.
Deputy CEO and Deputy Principal, Matt Phelps, said: “The results speak volumes for our wonderful students and talented lecturers. These results represent a continuing upward trajectory since the merger of Portsmouth and Highbury Colleges in 2021 and are another important step on the college’s journey to excellence. The results also demonstrate our continued commitment to unlocking the potential of young people in Portsmouth through the delivery of an aspirational and high-quality curriculum”.
Delighted Principal and CEO Katy Quinn said: “We’re going from strength to strength. This is a fourth record year of results for us and we couldn’t be happier!” she added.
One overjoyed student, Damin Dean, has secured a place at UCL to study Pharmacy after gaining four As in Advanced Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Extended Project Qualification:
“I moved to the UK from Bangladesh two years ago, and I’m thrilled to achieve four As. Learning here, it's so different to Bangladesh. You need to be self-driven – all the support is here, but it's so important to push yourself. I'm very happy,” he said.
Another student, Devine Kpogo, is ready to embark on a degree apprenticeship after achieving As in Business and Sociology and a B in Economics:
"The highlight of my time here were my teachers,” he said. “Without them, I wouldn't have achieved what I have. I'm excited for the next steps!"
