Terence Carvalho holding his workshop on professional networks like LinkedIn with COPC students

Terence Carvalho, better known as the Pompey TikToker, shared his business secrets with students from COPC’s Business, Travel and Tourism, and Management and Administration programmes.

While Terence, who has 24,000 followers on the social media platform, was visiting COPC in his capacity as COO of Delivered Social, an award-winning digital marketing agency. He spoke with students about the importance of building a professional presence on LinkedIn.

The session brought together learners from the Level 3 BTEC Business programme, the T Level in Management and Administration, and the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism. The workshop explored how LinkedIn can support career development, professional networking, and access to employment opportunities.

Terence guided students through the purpose and importance of LinkedIn as a professional platform and received practical advice on setting up an effective profile. The session also covered how to present skills and experience professionally, how and when to post content, and the importance of building and maintaining a strong professional network.

For many learners, the workshop provided valuable insight into how digital professional platforms are used within modern business environments. Students were encouraged to begin developing their online professional identity early, helping them prepare for work placements, apprenticeships, and future employment.

“The students were very excited to have Terence in class, many recognising him from his social media posts promoting Portsmouth. We are so lucky to have local companies willing to give their time to inspire and upskill our students,” Jo Chaffin, Curriculum Manager.

Experiences such as this are an important part of the college’s commitment to ensuring that learning extends beyond the classroom. By working closely with employers and industry professionals, students gain direct access to current industry practices and advice from those actively working in the sector.

“We are extremely grateful to local businesses and professionals who generously give their time to support learners,” added Jo. “Their willingness to share knowledge, expertise, and real-world experience plays a vital role in enriching programmes and helping students develop the skills and confidence needed for their future careers.”
