Gain a fantastic introduction to the construction industry on City of Portsmouth College's Construction Foundations: Bricklaying course – and develop the essential foundations needed for a successful career in the sector.

This course is ideal if you're looking for an entry route into construction and will teach you the fundamental skills, knowledge and understanding required by the industry. Through a combination of practical and theoretical learning, you'll gain valuable insight into key construction principles and workplace expectations.

You'll develop basic bricklaying skills, as well as covering essential areas such as safe working practices, measuring and calculating quantities, and effective communication within a construction environment.

On completion, you'll achieve a Level 1 Award/Certificate in Construction Skills (Bricklaying) and be well-prepared to progress onto the next level qualification or further training, enabling you to build confidently towards a career within the industry.

A minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 1 or above, including maths and English.

*E3 may be considered but is dependant on subject specialism

This programme of study also includes essential elements such as Maths, English, tutorials, enrichment activities, and work experience. You will be expected to attend all timetabled sessions, which typically take place over three days per week, from 9am to 4.30pm.

The course is taught using both practical and theoretical methods. Practical and theory work will be assessed unit by unit in line with awarding body requirements.

 

You could broaden your construction skills and knowledge by completing next level qualifications in Bricklaying.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
