If you have a general interest in sport, or want to forge a career in the sports industry but do not have the required maths and English grades to study other vocationally related programmes, this is an ideal choice.
You’ll develop skills in coaching, learning the principles of coaching, how to plan and deliver activities, how to evaluate activities and how to lead others. You’ll also learn about sport participation, understanding sport and active leisure, nutrition and employment in outdoor activities.
There are no formal entry requirements, although a keen interest in sports and leisure combined with a desire to improve English and maths is essential.
100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions all form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved. Continued non-attendance to any timetabled sessions may result in losing your place on the course.
You will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress to positive destinations. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video), which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence.
You will have weekly tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress. All of our programmes are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a tutor who will support you throughout your time in College. Teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our Highbury Campus is equipped with modern resources that will support you to achieve positive outcomes and to achieve the programme qualification.
This course is the perfect stepping stone to further education and enables progression into further vocational courses or an apprenticeship. In the final term, you will have an opportunity to study towards a Level 2 course that will further enable your progression.
