This is ideal if you're interested in the technicalities and creative possibilities of film, animation and moving image.
Projects will include:
- storyboarding
- camera techniques and composition
- editing, cropping and pacing
- the quality of lighting used in location work
- the use of sound and its interaction with moving images and text
- using appropriate industry-standard computer software such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects.
You’ll create your own films and animations, developing technical skills in the use of computers and Adobe creative software. You will also learn to be technically able to use a manual digital SLR, using your own camera to create short films, from pre-production to final outcome.
As a moving image maker, you’ll be encouraged to share your films by entering competitions for young filmmakers, where highly original and creative work has enjoyed considerable award-winning success. Other opportunities that will get you ready for the world of work have included filming and editing for local events.
There will also be opportunities built into the course for you to meet and work with local artists, visit galleries nationally and immerse yourself in the creative world.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English language and, ideally, an art and design based subject. No previous experience of this subject is required.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4.00pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
All work is assessed and standardised internally, including the end of course practical examination project, before it is finally moderated by a senior examiner representing the examination board. In this way, rigorous, consistent and fair marking is assured for all students.
You can progress to a degree programme in either film production or animation. Students who have taken this subject have progressed to careers in animation, photography, motion graphics and film making.
