City of Portsmouth College has played its part in telling the story of the city, at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery’s new Portsmouth 100: Your Museum. Your Stories. Your City. exhibition.

The exhibition, which is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, opened today (Monday October 26) and will run for five years. It explores Portsmouth’s first century as a city through the people, places, achievements and stories that have shaped it.

Spanning three galleries, the exhibition has 20 themed sections, including one about educational provision across Portsmouth – and that’s where City of Portsmouth College has stepped in to help. Working with schools across the city, the College has collected a huge range of memorabilia that offer a snapshot of Portsmouth’s educational history.

From bonnets and books, to blazers and photographs – and even Second World War bomb fragments – schools have sent us a treasure trove of artefacts for the exhibition. Due to the size of the exhibition space, items will be rotated for display, but in the coming weeks, we’ll take a closer look at some of the items donated.

Katy Quinn, Principal & CEO at City of Portsmouth College, said: “I am so proud of our involvement in the Portsmouth 100 exhibition. Working with Portsmouth’s incredible schools, we’ve been able to gather a fantastic range of items for display and seeing them in situ is just amazing.”

City of Portsmouth College is still open to receiving artefacts from schools – if your school has anything to put on display, please email marketing@copc.ac.uk
