Electrical Engineer
Electrical Engineers design, build and maintain systems, machinery and equipment.
Main responsibilities:
- Design and plan electrical systems using specialist software
- Inspect and test electrical installations to make sure they’re safe and reliable
- Oversee technicians and engineers to keep projects on track
- Help create greener systems by working on wind turbines or solar panels
- Conduct energy audits to make buildings and systems more efficient
Salary range:

Electrician
Electricians install, inspect and repair power, lighting and renewable tech.
Main responsibilities:
- Install and fix wiring, sockets and lighting in homes and businesses
- Fit smart tech such as heating and security systems, or automated lighting
- Respond to emergency callouts to repair faults and keep systems running
- Support net zero by fitting solar panels and EV charging points
- Service and maintain energy-efficient systems like low carbon heating units

Electric Vehicle Technician
Electric Vehicle Technicians maintain and repair hybrid and electric vehicles.
Main responsibilities:
- Maintain a vehicle’s electrical systems
- Diagnose and repair faults in batteries, control systems and electrical components

- Keep accurate records of repairs and maintenance
- Ensure charging infrastructure works efficiently

Electricity Distribution Worker
Electricity Distribution Workers install and maintain systems for electrical transmission.
Main responsibilities:
- Maintain and install overhead and underground power lines
- Work at height on poles and towers, or in trenches for underground cables
- Test electrical systems for safety and performance
- Find and repair faults on power lines and substations
- Remove or replace old cables, components and power infrastructure

Kit lists are provided at enrolment to be purchased in time for starting at COPC.
Yes, you will be required to wear steel toe cap boots, utility trousers and a plain black t-shirt.
There will be a combination of both. Level 1 and 2 courses are predominantly practical. However higher Level 3 courses have more theory.

Yes – all of your studying (including maths and English) will be at our North Harbour Campus.
