This course is ideal for those who wish to pursue a career in painting and decorating, yet are currently not working in the industry.
Units include:
- carrying out safe working practices
- communicating with others
- introduction to building studies
- health and safety
- introduction into the various types of paint
- hanging wall and ceiling papers
- textured coatings.
You will complete a minimum of 30 hours of on-the-job experience within the industry. You will have the opportunity to work on many live projects, including community and charitable projects, and benefit from site visits, industry talks and demonstrations from experts. You will also have an opportunity to take part in competitions, including WorldSkills and Johnstone's Painter of the Year.
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including maths and English.
Attendance is two/three days a week, typically from 9.00am to 4.30pm. A high level of attendance is required for successful achievement of the course.
You will complete a variety of practical assignments and in class assessments. You will also complete two online exams. You will log your learning journey in a diploma portfolio folder. All elements must be completed to successfully achieve the qualification.
You could progress on to the Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating or into an apprenticeship standard.
