If you have an interest in computing, or you want to train in the computing field but do not have the required English and maths levels to access other vocationally related courses, then the Level 1 Pathway to Information Technology course at City of Portsmouth College is for you.
You'll be learning about IT user fundamentals, setting up an IT system, word processing, presentation software and more. You'll have the opportunity to attend enrichment sessions and take part in vocationally based projects. You'll also contribute to the planning and delivery of fundraising events, enjoy regular professional visits and take part in real-life work experience.
There are no formal entry requirements, although a keen interest in computing combined with a desire to improve maths and English is essential.
You will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that you will need to progress into positive destinations. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (activity, group, photographic and video) which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence. You will have weekly tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress. All of our courses are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a tutor who will support you through your time in college. Teaching staff work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our study centres are equipped with modern resources that will support you to be able to achieve positive outcomes and to be able to achieve the course qualification.
This course is the perfect stepping stone to further education and enables progression into further vocational courses or an apprenticeship. In the final term, you will have an opportunity to study towards a Level 2 qualification that will further enable your progression.
