This programme is ideal for individuals who wish to develop a solid foundation in accounting and finance and who value a flexible, inclusive, and balanced approach to education.

This qualification will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration - covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping, basic costing principles and using accounting software.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. The blended delivery model integrates online learning resources with in-person workshops to encourage independent study, peer collaboration, and hands-on practice. The programme is designed to balance theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing learners for real-world accounting roles.

The Level 2 Certificate in Accounting provides essential knowledge and skills covering a range of topics including:
  • basic accounting principles through understanding key financial concepts and terminology
  • double-entry bookkeeping through recording financial transactions accurately
  • practical application of accounting tools and software
  • control accounts and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy in financial records
  • understanding professional ethical responsibilities in accounting
  • an introduction to cost management and financial decision-making.

Although there are no formal entry requirements for the course, to enrol in this programme, you should:

  • have basic numeracy and literacy skills (usually demonstrated by GCSEs in maths and English at grades 3/D or above, or equivalent). Initial and diagnostic assessment may be indicated to ensure the course is right for you

  • be willing to commit to the course requirements and assessments.

No prior accounting experience is required.

Due to the professional nature of the qualification, there are strict standards and requirements for membership to the AAT, in particular surrounding criminal convictions.

This course offers a flexible blended learning model. This means there is a mix of both in class and online lessons that learners must engage with.

  • online Learning through self-paced modules with access to videos, quizzes, and resources available 24/7

  • In-College sessions are fortnightly, on Thursdays, 3 hours per week for practical workshops, group activities, and tutor support.

This mindful delivery model ensures you can study at your own pace while maintaining access to personalised support.

During your studies, online resources are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer. This enables you to choose how, when and where you want to study Mindful Education’s award-winning video lessons. Online sessions last for approximately 45 minutes and combine animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Supporting resources such as practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further. You should expect to spend a further 4-5 hours studying independently online each week.

In College, at our Highbury Campus, you will benefit from scheduled classes with our highly trained teaching staff. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.  The programme uses a supportive and learner-centred approach to assessments. These include:

  • short online quizzes to check understanding
  • practical assignments completed at your own pace
  • computer based exams and synoptic assessment, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification. These are externally set and assessed.

Throughout the course, tutors will provide feedback and support to help you succeed.
