If you have completed the Level 1 Diploma and would like to develop their skills and knowledge further, this course is the natural next step.
Units include:
- health, safety and welfare in construction
- principles of building construction, information and communication
- building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
- interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
- constructing cavity walling forming masonry structures.
You will have the opportunity to work on many live projects and benefit from site visits, industry talks and demonstrations from experts. You will also be encouraged to showcase your skills at local and national competitions, including the Guild of Bricklayers Southern Regional Craft Competition, hosted at our North Harbour Campus. Additionally, you will complete 30 hours of on the-job experience.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including maths and English. Those with prior industry experience will also be considered.
Attendance is two to three days a week, typically from 9am-4.30pm. A high level of attendance is essential for a successful achievement.
You will complete several practical and unit assessments as part of continual learning. There will also be two online exams. You will log your learning journey in a diploma portfolio folder.
There may be the opportunity to progress on to a Level 3 Diploma in Brickwork. You could also take up an apprenticeship or go straight into employment.
