Do you want to build practical skills in IT, cyber security, networking and artificial intelligence to meet the needs of the current technological space? On this course at City of Portsmouth College's Highbury Campus, you'll learn how computer systems work, how networks connect devices, how cyber threats affect people and organisations, and how AI tools can be used safely and effectively in learning and work.

Units include: 

  • understanding computer hardware and software 
  • recognising cyber security threats 
  • applying cyber security skills in real situations 
  • understanding how computer networks work 
  • using AI tools responsibly for learning and work 
  • solving technical problems 
  • building confidence with IT and digital technology.

To successfully be accepted on to this course, you'll need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English or maths. 

This course is full time for one year and we expect all learners to achieve 90% or above on their core subject, maths, English and tutorial lessons. 

This course is assessed through coursework and practical assignments, which might include written tasks, research, practical digital work, presentations and a portfolio of evidence. Your work will be assessed by your teachers, checked by the College, and externally moderated by OCN London.

You can progress to a Level 3 T Level course, specialising in digital support and security.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
