Level 2 IMI Diploma in Maintenance & Repair Principles (Light Vehicle)

For students who want to develop the specialist knowledge required by the automotive sector, it has been designed to support the needs of employers within the industry.

Units include:

  • materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices
  • system components and operation
  • system components and maintenance
  • removing and replacing components.

You will be encouraged to enter competitions to test your skills against other colleges and the military. Events could include WorldSkills or the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Automotive Challenge. You will also benefit from 24/7 access to our online resources LJ Create and Vehicle Visuals.

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English.

This course will allow you to develop knowledge not only in Light Vehicle but other means of transport. It will also allow you to have the flexibility to develop your knowledge and skills across a variety of specialist areas to prepare you for further studies and potentially enter a job role they desire in the future. Students will be assessed in a range of ways including combined assessments and one online test that covers the mandatory units.

To successfully achieve all units in the qualification must be completed, including all assessments (practical and theory), to a satisfactory level and maximum attendance is required.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
