This programme seeks to introduce learners to two main functions within a business and provide a firm basis for further study within the fields of business administration and marketing.

With approximately 3.2 million people in the UK employed within an administrative and secretarial role, across a range of sectors such as public administration, education, health, finance and professional services, this technical qualification provides a springboard into a variety of employment opportunities.

Within business administration, roles can be varied across the sector. Employers have high expectations and require their administrative staff to be multi-skilled, with both technical and practical administration skills, including a focus on efficiency and service delivery both in the workplace and digitally.

A career starting in business administration has diverse progression routes into a broad range of roles throughout an organisation. The technical and practical skills you will develop are highly transferable across all industries.

Developed with employers, this qualification enables you to learn the skills and behaviours that will give you the best opportunity to be successful when moving into employment.

You will cover:

After achieving the qualification, you will gain an advantage when applying for a job in business administration in roles such as business administrator, administrative assistant, sales administrator, or office administrator.

Marketing is an essential function in the success of all businesses, whether they are making and selling products or offering services. Marketing roles are varied and incorporate the process of researching initial product and service concepts through to their development, advertising, and digital marketing and sales, including relationship management of customers. There are also specialist marketing agencies that businesses may use to support their marketing activities.

Marketing is a fast paced, creative and challenging environment to work in and offers fantastic progression routes into a number of roles throughout an organisation, the skills you can develop are transferable into most businesses.

Developed in consultation with employers in marketing this qualification ensures that you learn the skills and behaviours that will give you the best opportunity to be successful when applying for work.

You will cover:

Achieving this qualification will give you an advantage when applying for a job in marketing. The types of roles you will be ready for are: digital sales assistant, marketing and branding assistant, marketing and communications assistant, sales agent or sales associate.

Throughout this programme, you will be developing your skills in literacy and numeracy, alongside transferable technical and practical skills in communication, decision-making, self-management and development, problem solving and managing information.

This qualification also gives you a sound basis to progress to a level 3 qualification such as a Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Business or Level 3 Extended Certificate in Marketing or onto an apprenticeship as a Level 3 Business Administrator or Level 3 Marketing Assistant.

We would recommend that you also take E6 option ‘UNLOC’ alongside this qualification.

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English language.

Weekly attendance is required at college during term time. Generally, you will be in college three days a week with the remaining day studying at home or in college, unless you need to retake your maths and/or English GCSEs. Your attendance is expected to be maintained at a minimum of 90%.

Business administration term one: September to January.

Marketing term two: January to July

You will be taught by fully qualified, experienced tutors in the classroom, using a range of resources and methods, including textbooks, demonstrations, practical tasks, projects and e-learning. You will be encouraged to take ownership of your own education and develop skills of independent and autonomous learning and self-discovery, with the support and guidance of the tutors. You will have access to the latest Microsoft technologies and will be expected to complete independent study outside the classroom.

Assessments will comprise 25% externally set exam and 75% Internally assessed coursework for each qualification of the programme. Your coursework is internally assessed and externally moderated.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
