This qualification is for you if you wish to work as an electrician in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform to progress towards becoming a competent electrician.
Units include:
- health and safety and industry practices
- principles of electrical science
- electrical installation technologies
- installing and wiring systems and enclosures
- communication skills.
You will complete 30 hours of work experience within the industry, as well as taking part in college-based projects and being encouraged and supported to take part in both local and national competitions. Trips to trade shows, manufacturers and visits from industry specialists are also included in the course.
You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including maths, English and preferably science. Those with prior industry experience will also be considered.
This is a full-time course with classroom/ workshop attendance of at least two days a week, from 9.00am to 4.30pm for one year. A high level of attendance is necessary to fully complete this qualification.
You will be assesed through a City & Guilds devised theory exam and a practical synoptic assessment.
You can progress to a Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installation or into an apprenticeship standard.
