Equivalent to one A Level, this course is ideal if you wish to explore and develop your technique, choreography, live performance skills and appreciation of dance. It provides training in a variety of genres and styles including contemporary dance and jazz dance.
You will broaden your knowledge of the dance world and the forms, approaches and contributors that have shaped its development. You will have the opportunity to create work for various projects and develop the skills to perform to a high standard as part of an ensemble. It also allows you to develop self-confidence, presentation skills, personal discipline, time management and group work skills which are highly regarded by both employers and in higher education.
You will have regular opportunities to showcase your work in our Studio Theatre, to participate in trips to view live professional work and to represent the College.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English language and dance, or a merit in a Level 2 performance qualification. Significant extra-curricular performance experience would also be accepted.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4.00pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
Assessments will comprise 60% personal investigation and 40% externally set practical exam. Your coursework is internally assessed and externally moderated.
You could progress to an extensive range of options, from the further study of dance at a dance school or university, to a specific career path, including dancer, teacher, physiotherapist, arts administrator or manager.
