Equivalent to two A Levels, this course is ideal for those who want to pursue a rewarding career where they will be caring for and supporting vulnerable individuals in a wide range of settings.
Units include:
- building positive relationships
- equality, diversity and rights
- health, safety and security in health and social care
- safeguarding
- anatomy and physiology
- supporting people with learning disabilities
- promoting positive behaviour.
This is a qualification which includes both health and social care-based units to give you a broad subject knowledge. You will be assessed through a range of methods, including exams, essays, presentations, role play and practical tasks.
We offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities, such as completing a first aid course, employability workshops, sessions with guest speakers, working with Southampton Hospital Education Centre and trips to relevant settings to support your studies.
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English language.
You will have a 9.55am start, one lesson in the morning, one in the afternoon and a guaranteed 4.00pm finish. You will also have at least one morning and one afternoon per week free for private study.
Assessments will comprise 60% non examined assessment and 40% externally set exam. Your coursework is internally assessed and externally moderated.
You could progress to work with individuals in professions such as nursing and midwifery, social work and working with children.
Many students go on to study higher education in areas such as psychology, sociology, criminology, social work or health-based degrees. There is also a range of apprenticeship degrees to explore in this field of work.
