Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing

This course is designed to develop and expand your plumbing knowledge and skills to ensure you are ready for industry.

Units include:

  • organising resources within building services
  • hot and cold-water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance
  • central heating system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance
  • electrical work on domestic plumbing and heating systems and components
  • domestic, commercial and industrial sanitation systems.

You will complete a minimum of 30 hours of work experience within the industry. You will have the opportunity to showcase your skills on many live projects, including renovating community facilities, visit Portsmouth’s central water treatment plant and attend industry trade shows. Manufacturers and industry specialists often visit the College to showcase the latest developments in plumbing and environmental technology.

You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including maths, English and a science, plus a Level 2 Plumbing qualification (Diploma or NVQ).

This is a one-year course. You will be required to attend two full days a week for 34 weeks. This course will be made up of 80% classroom and 20% workshop. Maximum attendance is required to ensure success. A large element of home study will be expected.

You will learn in classroom sessions which will help you to underpin your knowledge of the subject, backed up with sessions in our well-equipped workshop. Following the completion of each unit you will take an online examination.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You could move into employment, an apprenticeship or choose to broaden your skills with a different trade, for example the Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation or a professional gas qualification.
