Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice

Following on from the Level 3 Diploma, this course develops many of the skills learned in year one as well as teaching new ones. The programme has been designed to provide a strong foundation for potential progression to university and many students go on to gain exciting careers within the media industry.

Units include:

  • developing an understanding of industry roles
  • personal progression routes for employability, higher education and training
  • advanced camera operation and video editing
  • critical and reflective application to creative projects
  • advancing existing skills in production management and developing a proposal in response to creative industry brief
  • an optional Level 4 unit with a critical self-appraisal.

You will have the opportunity to go on external visits to media organisations, such as the BBC and the Warner Bros Studio, and meet industry professionals. You will lead on many live and exciting projects, producing work for external clients to build an impressive portfolio, and exhibit your end-of year show reel at an event designed to celebrate creative work from all areas of the College.

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English.

The programme is full time and you should expect to be in college up to four days a week. The good news is that there are no 9am starts!

You will learn in a variety of ways. There will be practical demonstrations, skills workshops and formal taught sessions. Assessment is by coursework portfolio. Your work will be graded as either Pass, Merit or Distinction.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You could go on to study at university or start an apprenticeship.

You could also go straight into work in television, film, advertising, radio, public relations, digital media or social media content management. You could also move into marketing and specialise in digital communications.
