National Extended Diploma in Business

A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including maths and English.

We recognise the importance and value of outstanding attendance and punctuality to students achieving success, including progression to higher levels of study, gaining employment, and gaining promotion in employment. Frequent absences and lateness impact upon student achievement as well as the acquisition of behaviours required at the workplace.

The course is full time for two years (or one year top up from the foundation diploma). The exact days and hours depend on the timetable but you can expect to attend for a minimum of 16 hours a week. A minimum of 90% attendance is expected. 

You will be assessed through a combination of coursework, controlled assessments, and externally marked examinations. This allows you to demonstrate your skills in research, analysis, communication, and strategic thinking – all vital for progression into higher education or employment. This is through a range of methods, including projects, presentations, case studies, controlled assessments and assessed coursework. There are two externally set and assessed exams in year 1 and two in year 2.

The Extended Diploma is widely recognised by universities and employers. It supports progression into a range of business-related degrees or higher-level apprenticeships in areas such as business management, marketing, accountancy, law, or human resources.

You could also enter the workforce directly at an entry-level role, such as business administrator, marketing assistant, retail supervisor or finance assistant.
