- gas and electrical theories and procedures involved in the practical installation, commissioning, decommissioning and/or ongoing service and repair of gas installations, appliances and associated equipment
- current health, safety and environmental legislation and regulations applicable to work in the gas industry
- safe gas and electrical installation, commissioning, decommissioning and/or ongoing service and repair procedures of gas installations and appliances needed to establish the safe operation of the equipment and installation in accordance with industry standards

Working with our highly skilled and qualified gas team, you will learn all the latest knowledge, skills and behaviours of a standout gas engineer. You will also have the opportunity to learn new clean growth techniques within our Net Zero Training Hub, the first of its kind in the UK.
To successfully complete the apprenticeship, you will need both maths and English at grade 4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2. If necessary, these can be studied at College alongside your apprenticeship.
The programme is co-ordinated through our North Harbour Campus over a period of 15 months and consists of classroom learning together with developing your skills and knowledge in the workplace. You will be required to attend one day per week throughout the duration of your apprenticehsip programme.
You will build a portfolio of work and workplace assessors will be in regular contact to provide support, and to arrange on-site visits to observe your ability and skills in your daily role. It is important for you to take ownership of your own learning by seeking out opportunities to gain new skills on the job with your employer.
You and your employer will be enrolled on our e-Portfolio system OneFile to enable both parties to upload evidence of learning and to track progression through the programme.
You can apply for your Gas Safe certificate, learn and qualify in the use of specific gas appliances or venture into commercial gas properties, LPG and metering.
