This course helps you improve your English language knowledge and develops the skills needed for future training and work.
ESOL courses are for adults whose first language is not English.
You need to be aged at least 19 at the start of the course and be living permanently in the UK.
Our full-time ESOL courses cover a range of levels, including:
-beginner
-elementary
-pre-intermediate
-intermediate
-upper intermediate.
Depending on your level, you will study reading, writing, speaking and listening in the English language.
Higher levels include grammar and vocabulary, introducing yourself, spelling and writing skills, completing application forms and learning useful language to help you in everyday life outside the College.
All full-time students will study Functional Skills Maths at the appropriate level and have the opportunity to gain an Edexcel Functional Skills Maths qualification at the end of the year.
You will also have the opportunity to develop your IT skills to prepare you for work or further education.
Once you apply, we will assess your current English level to make sure you are in the correct class.
You do not need any qualifications to join this programme. You will be given an initial assessment at interview before you join the class to check your current level.
Typically, a full-time course would be one class per day for five days per week (morning or afternoon).
Average class size: 12 (maximum 14).
Full attendance is expected at classes, events and visits.
You will be given assessments at the end of every unit.
School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.
You can progress through the ESOL Levels to gain various City and Guilds qualifications.Full-time
