This course will revisit and reinforce knowledge of the three basic verb tenses (past, present and future) and will lead on to more advanced and sophisticated verb tenses such as the conditional, the preterite and the subjunctive.
Word order will be explored and we will regularly manipulate sentences as a basis for exploration of word order and syntax.
You will explore the case system in German in further detail, all the while expanding vocabulary across a broad range of themes. Lessons are taught across the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to enable you to become a confident and rounded linguist.
You will need to have completed our German for Beginners course, or you will need to have some previous knowledge of German grammar and vocabulary, possibly from A Level, GCSE (or equivalent) or time spent abroad.
This course is held for 1.5 hours a week, Thursdays 7.30-9pm. You will be expected to attend all of your timetabled sessions on time, unless prior agreement has been made and agreed with your tutor.
If a student arrives more than 10 minutes late for class they may be asked to leave. If a student is absent for three consecutive weeks without notice they will automatically be withdrawn from the course.
While you will not receive a formal qualification, this fun and informative course will help expand and practise your skills in German.
You will, through the careful study of the above, be able to understand the fundamental principles behind the grammatical system and apply these in your speaking and writing to form clear and coherent sentences of increasing complexity, using a developing vocabulary. You will be able to assimilate new structures through careful reading of authentic German texts and develop a more sophisticated vocabulary.
