Music students put on amazing showcase at Wedgewood Rooms

Music students pulled out all the stops for their performance at the Wedgewood Rooms on Tuesday 7 December.

This was the first opportunity the 33 Music Performance and Digital Music Production students had to play at an external venue since the relaxation of the coronavirus restrictions.

Harry Fitzgerald, who is completing a Foundation Diploma in Music Performance alongside the Extended Certificate in Digital Music Production, said: "It was amazing to finally play in a venue again. A personal highlight for me was all of my class on stage at the end for Proud Mary. I love performing to an audience and with coronavirus restrictions this hasn’t been possible. I loved the energy on stage as well as having the reaction of a crowd."

The second-year students performed numerous classic hits, from Nina Simone and the Temptations to Idles and Iron Maiden.

Imogen Bryant, who is completing a BTEC Foundation Diploma in Music Performance alongside A Levels in Medical Science and Sociology, said: "I love live music so being able to be part of that was amazing, and I felt I could be myself as well as having lots of fun."

One of the many advantages to studying at our Sixth Form Campus is the option to combine A Level and vocational courses, allowing students to develop both their creative and academic skills.

Music teacher Gareth Howells said: "I’m very proud of every one of our students as the evening was simply amazing. Well done! It was an extremely impressive performance delivered by confident and talented musicians. Opportunities like this are so important as they are a fantastic chance for them to showcase their skills in a professional venue."
