Catering students cook up brilliant new roles
PUBLISHED 22-04-2026

Two catering students who took part in a work experience week at the Marriott Hotel in Cosham have secured paid work after impressing bosses.
Oliver Lewendon and Amelia Stuart, who are both 16 and studying Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery, will be working around their studies with shifts to suit them after helping in the hotel’s kitchen for a five-day stint last month.
They spent their work experience working as if they were a permanent member of the Marriott team, preparing food and making meals to order for customers, as well as buffet food. They also got to learn more about working with fish and meat.
“It was really different to work in the Marriott’s kitchen, but in the best way,” said Amelia. “It’s great to be working for such a big company, where there’s going to be lots of opportunities.”
Oliver added: “I originally just wanted to work in a bakery, but now I’ve been working in the kitchen at the hotel, it’s totally opened my eyes to more. It was so great to do my work experience there, and help out the team, and now I get paid for it!”
