A group of people watch the City of Portsmouth College flashmob dance at Southsea Bandstand

Hundreds of Portsmouth residents had a grand day out on Southsea Common last weekend for the inaugural SENtury Festival.

Organised by City of Portsmouth College’s Foundation Prospects department, the festival was run as part of Portsmouth 100 celebrations and was designed specifically for people with additional needs.

There was live entertainment – featuring a reprise of the incredible Portsmouth 100 flashmob dance, which once again included Portsmouth’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Abdul Kadir – fun activities and community stalls.

Hannah Parkinson, Assistant Principal Foundation Learning Support, said:“I am so incredibly proud of what we achieved on Saturday, what started as an idea last year culminated in holding our first SEN focused festival for the city and as part of the Portsmouth 100 celebrations. It was a wonderful event. These young people may not be able to access a larger festival, so we brought them their very own afternoon, celebrating the amazing neurodiverse people we have in Portsmouth. It was lovely to see so much joy and happiness on everyone’s faces.”
