Poster challenge showcases students' physics knowledge

City of Portsmouth College physics students have been putting their learning into practice through the power of posters!
In scientific academia, physicists present their research through academic posters – so first-year students were challenged to do their own, based on data they've compiled across the year in practical studies.
And they had a true expert to impress. The students not only had to present their findings to their Engineering and Physics lecturer Joseph Blake, but also City of Portsmouth College alumni, and University of Portsmouth Director of Cosmology and Gravitation, Professor David Bacon.
As well as explaining their findings, they also had to demonstrate their ability to answer questions. The winning team, comprising Paul Mein, Angelo Adim-Okozi, Emanuele Nwegbu and Delana Sam-Akanbi, took the crown by just 0.1 points, with their submission on determining Planck's constant and their fantastic ability to answer questions and think deeply.
David said: "I really enjoyed the event. It's a fantastic class of students."
Joseph added: "The event was an absolute success. The students outdid themselves in their ability to convey complex scientific content as well as being able to design an academic style poster. All the students had a great deal of fun and really honed in on so many different soft skills. They all should be very proud of themselves!"
