City of Portsmouth College sees record number of students achieving Level 2 success
PUBLISHED 20-08-2026

More students than ever are finding their brilliance at City of Portsmouth College – with more than 2,000 of them collecting their GCSE and Level 2 qualification results today. (Thursday August 20).
With a 30% overall increase in the number of results issued – showcasing the excellent growth of the College – there were 35 subjects with a 100% pass rate, including those in Art & Design, IT, Health & Social Care, Business Administration, Animal Care and Plastering.
Deputy Principal & CEO Matt Phelps said: “We’re absolutely thrilled with our Level 2 results this year and exceptionally proud of our learners, who are a mix of all ages and backgrounds. Our Level 2 courses cover a whole range of vocational subjects and help people either progress to the next level of their studies or go out into the world of work – whatever path they choose to take, we know they’ll excel.”
Principal & CEO Katy Quinn added: “Today has been a wonderful day for everyone at City of Portsmouth College – the culmination of a lot of hard work and determination, for our ever-growing cohort of students as well as our talented staff. They’ve worked together so brilliantly to get some fantastic results today, not least in those courses with a 100% pass rate. We’re very proud.”
Some of the biggest smiles on the day came from students needing either their maths or English GCSEs to progress to exciting new things. Take Natalia Barrachina, who got a grade 7 in English after only one year of study so she can begin her Master’s degree and progress from being a mental health worker in children’s services, to a social worker. Or Twana Mamand, who got the grades he needed in maths to apply to University of Portsmouth to study adult nursing.
Meanwhile, Rasoul Ebrahim, who after only a year of study got a grade 7 in his English – his first ever UK qualification – to progress to study sciences at College and pursue his dream of becoming a paramedic.
“I loved my time at City of Portsmouth College,” said Rasoul, who is Kurdish-Iranian. “I made new friends, the atmosphere was great and the teachers are lovely. I’m feeling really good.”
