Progress to Employment at City of Portsmouth College is designed for young adults aged 16 to 24 who want to progress into vocational areas while gaining personal and employability skills.
You will be able to identify vocational pathways like retail, hospitality, horticulture, business, animal care and art, with the chance to experience real life situations to develop confidence and skills which are transferable throughout your life. You will improve your skills in communication, problem-solving, listening and time management, learning to recognise good value deals when making purchases, writing effective application letters and using the internet to access local services or online banking.
Units include:
- communication in the workplace
- problem solving
- developing teamworking skills
- vocational tasters
- health and safety in a practical environment
- introduction to local community
- personal hygiene
- English, maths and technology.
No formal entry requirements are required, though realistic learning targets would need to be agreed.
100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved.
This course combines both theory and practical sessions and you will be assessed in a variety of ways (activity, group work, photographic and video) which will be presented through a portfolio of evidence.
All our courses are planned around your individual learning needs, with a timetable that clearly identifies the sessions that will be taught. You will be assigned a Programme Lead who will support you throughout your time in College. Teaching staff will work closely with you to help you achieve planned learning goals. Our staff are experienced at delivering classes to meet your needs and will work with you to build your confidence and skills. Our learning centres are equipped with modern resources that will support you to achieve positive outcomes.
You could move on to Supported Internship or Level 1 Provision across the College.
We work hard to keep our course information up to date. Occasionally we may make small changes to course content, start dates, locations or fees to keep our courses current and relevant. If anything important changes after you apply, we’ll always let you know.
