Entry 2 Introduction to Employment

If you are a young adult who wants to develop independent living and work skills, this programme equips you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to be able to live a more independent life and prepare for employment or volunteering.

Maths and English will be a mandatory part of your programme and followed at the appropriate level. These will provide you with the practical skills to work confidently, effectively and independently. They open doors to learning, to life and to work. These skills are valued by employers and further education and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. Better life skills can mean a better future - as learners or as employees and in everyday life.

You will learn by gaining experience in real life situations to develop confidence and skills which are transferrable throughout your life. It also provides career development opportunities for anyone ready to work.

No formal entry requirements are required, though realistic learning targets would need to be agreed.

100% attendance is expected for the duration of the course. English, maths, work experience, tutorials and employability sessions form part of the overall qualification and non-attendance to any of these sessions may result in the overall qualification not being achieved.

You will learn the skills you need to live with increased independence, such as shopping and day-to-day household management, budgeting your money, healthy eating, personal safety, using public transport and looking after yourself. You will also develop the skills and knowledge that will help you to identify suitable work opportunities for the future; like timekeeping, following instructions, working independently, team working and problem solving. You will be assessed through a variety of ways (pictorial, photographic and video) which will be presented via a portfolio of evidence. You will have regular tutorials and receive regular feedback to discuss your progress.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You could progress to SAIL Entry 3 or Route to Employment.
