For anyone looking to learn the essentials of brickwork, as a progression to a career in the trade.
Units include:
- principles of building construction, information and communication
- health, safety and welfare in construction
- masonry structures up to the damp-proof course
- block laying
You will have the opportunity to work on many live projects and benefit from site visits, industry talks and demonstrations from experts. You will also be encouraged to showcase your skills at local and national competitions, including the Guild of Bricklayers Southern Regional Craft Competition, hosted at our North Harbour Campus and you will complete 30 hours of on-the-job experience.
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including maths and English.
You will attend two/three days a week typically from 9am-4.30pm. A high level of attendance is necessary for successful achievement.
You will complete practical and unit assessments as part of continual learning. There are also two online exams. You will log your learning journey in a diploma portfolio folder.
You can progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Brickwork or to an apprenticeship.
