Level 2 IMI in MOT Testing (Classes 4 & 7)

This course is for individuals who want, or need, to become MOT testers.

Units may include:

  • safe working practices in the vehicle test centre
  • working relationships with the vehicle test centre
  • manage own professional development as an MOT tester
  • carry out pre-test checks for statutory periodic roadworthiness test
  • carry out a statutory periodic roadworthiness test.

To successfully gain your qualification, you will take an online test and a practical assessment.

To be eligible to undertake this qualification a potential student must:

  • have a current and full UK driving licence for the vehicle classes they want to test
  • have at least four years full-time employment in the service and repair of the vehicle types to be tested. (Apprentices who have been employed for four years are eligible.)
  • have no unspent convictions for criminal offences connected with the MOT testing scheme or the motor trade, or involving acts of violence or intimidation
  • be of good repute
  • and to become a nominated tester (NM) for class 3, 4, 5 or 7 vehicles they must have an appropriate qualification
  • an automotive Level 3 qualification.

Students will need a 100% attendance rate to achieve the qualification. This course will be held Mondays, 8.30am-5pm, for five weeks.

This course will use a range of assessment methods including one online exam covering the mandatory units and a practical assessment.

School Leavers under the age of 19 do not have to pay fees on any full time courses, though may have to pay for their second year if turning 19 during their studies. If you’re aged 19 or over you might qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan. It’s easy to apply for and you won’t have to pay anything back until you’re earning over £25,000. If you are studying a part-time course and you receive one of the following benefits, or you depend financially on someone who does, you may be entitled to have your tuition fees waived: Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support. You will, however, have to pay any awarding body/assessment fees (unless you are on a first full level 2 course). * If you are in receipt of Working Tax Credit or receive other allowances, you may be eligible to claim concessionary rates. If you are entitled to a fee concession you will be asked to provide proof of your entitlement. It is essential that you inform us if your entitlement changes at any time during your course.

You will be able to carry out MOT testing on class 4 and 7.
