Interested in plastering but have no formal training? This Level 2 apprenticeship standard, taught at City of Portsmouth College's North Harbour Campus, you will learn many practical plastering skills.
As well as technical abilities, you will develop the functional and personal skills required to be successful in your career.
You'll learn about health and safety hazards, regulations and legislation, codes of practice, customer service, construction methods, insulation, facilities, fire protection, damp proofing, considerations before completing plastering work, dry lining, mortars, and render systems.
To be accepted on to this apprenticeship programme, you will need both maths and English at grade 2 or above or Functional Skills Level 1.
You will be required to attend College at our North Harbour Campus. College attendance is one day per week.
It is a government requirement for you to spend a minimum of six hours per week of your apprenticeship working towards your off-the-job learning which can consist of College attendance, homework/coursework, project related work, employer training, mentoring and coaching – plus other tasks.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will need to gather work-based evidence and submit work to your e-portfolio system, Onefile. Your evidence will then be assessed by your lecturer, and feedback will be provided.
You'll need to take ownership of your own learning by seeking out opportunities to gain new skills on the job with your employer. Learning in College will be delivered through a mixture of practical delivery and application and theoretical knowledge, which will help to build your knowledge, skills and behaviours. You will also need to complete independent study and research.
Your final grade will be determined at an endpoint assessment, by a collective performance in three areas:
- online knowledge test
- practical skills test
- professional discussion (to demonstrate that you can apply the broad range of knowledge, skills and behaviours required in the Apprenticeship Standard).
With this qualification, you can access higher-level full-time courses, or enter into employment.
