Business awards raise £7000 for Heartbeat charity
We joined around 400 of the region's leading businesspeople for the annual Central South Business Awards ceremony, which raised more than £7,000 for the charity Heartbeat. TV star and comedian Simon Brodkin (better known as prankster Lee Nelson) hosted the glittering charity event held at Southampton’s Leonardo Grand Harbour Hotel.

We've teamed up with Portsmouth’s stunning Kings Theatre to give performing arts students a real-life insight into the industry. The exciting collaboration will see students having part of their course delivered at the fabulous Grade II* listed theatre, which is home to world-class stage productions.

New UK-German college connection brings young people together
We've linked up with a German college in a new cross-cultural alliance. As part of the scheme, students from both countries will be able to take part in week-long exchange visits. Staff from the Sophie Scholl Vocational College in Duisburg have already visited Portsmouth, where they toured the COPC campuses and learned about local traditions.

Journalism students report on hustings events
In the build up to the General Election, our Sixth Form Campus hosted two Question Time style hustings events featuring candidates from all the political parties. Two of our Level 3 CTEC Digital Media Journalism students were there to report on them.

Award-winning journalist is in the news
Congratulations to Nathaniel Lawson, one of three high-achieving student journalists to win a prestigious award in an annual scheme in memory of NUJ stalwart Bob Norris. Nathaniel, who lives in West Sussex, completed the NCTJ fast track journalism diploma course here, and has already landed a job at the Henley Standard.

Snakes alive! Miracle birth for Rainbow Boa Ronaldo
Staff and students were stunned to discover that our six-foot Brazilian Rainbow Boa snake Ronaldo had given birth to 14 babies. Not only was the 13-year-old snake believed to be male, it also hadn’t been in contact with any other snakes for at least nine years!

D-Day honour for Travel & Tourism students
Our Travel & Tourism students witnessed a historic event when they were invited along to the Flamme de la Liberté welcome ceremony at Portsmouth International Port. The flame of the French nation travelled through Portsmouth on its way to Arlington Cemetery in the US to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.

Students and staff teamed up with key personnel from the Royal Maritime and New Place hotels in an important new collaboration. The group looked at opportunities for collaboration in a mutually beneficial way, breaking the stigma of work experience and helping shape the workforce of the future.
