Foundation Prospects students with Portsmouth Lord Mayor Tom Coles

Two groups of our lovely Foundation Prospects students enjoyed an ‘amazing’ trip to Portsmouth Guildhall, where they met Lord Mayor Tom Coles.

The students had a VIP reception. They were greeted with refreshments, before being welcomed by the Lord Mayor who introduced himself and his staff.

They took part in a question-and-answer session, learning about the history of Portsmouth and the Guildhall, including the Lord Mayor’s connections and job roles over many years.

The students were given a guided tour of the Lord Mayor’s office, the banquet hall, Council Chambers and parlours.

They were also shown civic gifts and treasures collected over the years.

Lecturer Lisa Mayhead said it was a wonderful visit. The students agreed.

“I think it was an amazing trip, it was the first Lord Mayor I have met, he answered all of my questions,” said one.

Said another: “I thought it was really good, I spoke on the microphone in the Council Chambers.”

A third commented: “I liked all of the trip, I liked seeing the Lord Mayor’s chain."
